Staying at Hotel Hygge | Brussels

Staying at Hotel Hygge, Brussels

My recent third visit to Brussels allowed me the opportunity to stay in the uniquely designed surroundings of Hotel Hygge, a beautiful Scandinavian inspired hotel located in the Louiza area of Brussels.

As someone with a penchant for scandi-design and interiors, it’s hard to imagine a more perfect place in Brussels for me to call home for the weekend.

Hotel Hygge’s design of simple lines, walls and furniture in soft colours punctuated by pops of green plants and natural accents, gives this accommodation a clean and relaxing scandi aesthetic.

Mornings here were my favourite. A time for lazy breakfasts of strong coffee, fresh bread and international breakfast dishes, taken in the large, serene dining room. Here, we began our days in an incredibly relaxing space filled with Scandinavian designs that exuded a sense of uncluttered ease. A wonderful space for quietly contemplating the day ahead.

Aside from serving as an excellently located base from which to explore Brussels, Hotel Hygge is also perfect for those delightful lazy days, with sizeable communal space and plenty of comfortable corners for curling up with a book in the lobby, and in summer, a lovely garden terrace.

Throughout our stay, we found the creations of young Scandinavian designers all around this incredibly tranquil hotel including HAY and Marimekko alongside comforting materials like wood, textiles and fur – the latter a welcome presence on a cold November day in Brussels. The sense of calm in the lobby continued upstairs into our room, which was spotless, and decorated in soft shades of blue and delicate whites. The hotel staff were very incredibly helpful and attentive to our needs throughout.

Pronounced ‘hoo-ga’, the Danish concept of Hygge cannot be translated into a single word but it encompasses a feeling of cosy contentment and well being through enjoying the simple things in life. If this hotel is anything to go by, I think the Danes are clearly onto something wonderful!
